Fifty-seven inches with drawer towers on both sides is a different proposition from an L-shaped desk of the same width. The surface is a clean rectangle, which suits writing and paperwork better than a corner does, and the cost is knee space: the gap between the towers is fixed, so a wide office chair with arms may not roll in. Measure the chair you intend to use at its widest point before deciding this is the desk for a long working day.

How it lives in the room

Seven drawers want seven jobs

Five small drawers fill with the same mixed clutter unless each one is given a purpose on the first day: stationery, cables, chargers, post, stamps. A drawer with a name stays usable; a drawer without one becomes the drawer nobody opens and everybody adds to.

The centre drawer takes a file box

That one large drawer is sized for bulky boxes rather than loose paper, which is what makes it worth keeping empty until something genuinely needs it. Archive boxes, a scanner, a cable bag: items too big for the small drawers and too ugly for the surface.

A beveled edge saves the forearm

The chamfer along the front is not styling alone. On a thick desktop a square edge presses into the wrist during long typing sessions; the bevel spreads it. Set the chair height so the forearm rests on that edge rather than hovering above it, and the desk stops being tiring by late afternoon.

Before you order

Two drawer towers mean the desk cannot be used from the side or shared across a corner, and the thick solid wood base makes it heavy once built. Decide its position before assembly, because sliding it on a wood floor afterwards needs felt pads and two people.
