Silver hardware on a brown carcass sets a cool metal against a warm finish, and that pairing only settles if something else in the room repeats it. A lamp base, a door handle, a mirror frame or the legs of a bed will do the job. With nothing to echo them, six strips of bright metal across wood-tone fronts read as an afterthought rather than a scheme. It is the sort of detail that costs nothing to get right at the planning stage, and swapping flush-fitted pulls afterwards is not a simple job.

How it lives in the room

Repeat the silver somewhere else

Find one other cool metal object for the same wall: a lamp, a frame, a handle, a curtain pole. A single echo is enough to make the pulls look chosen. Without it the eye reads the hardware as the only silver thing in a warm room, which is the commonest way a wood-tone piece ends up looking mismatched.

Wipe the top, not the pulls

A water-resistant top takes a damp cloth without any complaint. The metal pulls want a dry pass instead, because water sitting in the seam between a flush handle and the drawer front is the one place on this cabinet that cannot dry out quickly, and a swollen edge there is permanent.

Slanted faces collect at the top edge

An angled drawer front has an upward-facing lip along its top edge, and that narrow ledge gathers dust in a way a vertical face never does. On a brown finish it shows as a pale line across each drawer. One pass with a dry cloth along six edges clears it, and it is the only part of this chest needing attention more often than monthly.

Before you order

Brown engineered wood shows a chip as a pale core, where white or black finishes show far less contrast. Felt pads under anything hard that lives on the top, and some care at the corners during the move in, prevent most of them.
