The number that decides this purchase is 15.7 inches. A standard base cabinet is 24 inches deep, so this hutch gives up most of a foot of depth to stand against a dining room wall without crowding the chairs behind it. The trade is real: cereal boxes and stock pots fit, but a stacked set of dinner plates and a bread bin on the same shelf will not sit one behind the other. Width is where the volume comes from instead, across eight doors and a dedicated food section.

How it lives in the room

Clear 71 inches of wall

Seventy-one inches is just under six feet, which clears a light switch but fouls a low window head and most wall cabinets. Hold a tape against the wall and mark the top line before anything is unboxed, because a loaded MDF hutch is not a piece you shuffle along the wall afterwards.

Give the microwave its own bay

The open stand in the middle exists so the microwave stops eating worktop. Measure yours with the door open, not closed: the swing needs clearance at the side, and a model with a drop-down handle wants a couple of inches of air in front of the fluted doors above.

Run the 1.5-meter cord once

One cord leaves the cabinet and feeds two outlets and three USB ports inside it. Decide which side of the hutch faces the wall socket before assembly, route the cord behind the plinth, and the kettle and toaster never need an extension lead again. Doing it after the shelves are loaded means pulling the hutch out twice.

Before you order

MDF at this size is heavy once built and the panels are door-shaped rather than flat-pack-friendly, so assemble it in the room where it will live. The anti-tipping kit is included and belongs on the wall, not in the box.
