One drawer is not a compromise, it is a constraint, and constraints are useful in a child’s room. A single generous drawer at the foot of the bed forces one decision: what does this bed store? Spare bedding, or off-season clothes, or the overflow toy box — one of them, not all three. Rooms stay tidy when storage has an assigned job. The second drawer that other frames offer is usually the one that fills with everything nobody wanted to sort.

How it lives in the room

Assign the drawer a job

Write it down if it helps. Bedding is the strongest candidate — a spare set and a duvet fill it exactly, and they are the things you want near the bed at eleven at night rather than in a hall cupboard.

Set the headboard height with the mattress on

The headboard adjusts to suit mattress thickness. Fit the mattress first, then sit a child on it and set the padded panel so it starts at the small of their back. Guessing before the mattress goes on gets it wrong by two or three inches every time.

Grey earns its keep here

A mid grey velvet is the one colour in the range that reads as neither a nursery nor an adult room. It survives a change of bedding, a change of wall colour and a change of taste, which for a bed bought at six and slept in at fourteen is the point.

Before you order

Three of the legs adjust. On an old floor that is the difference between a silent bed and one that taps. Level it with a spirit level app and a coin under the tape measure — do it once, properly, and the anti-squeak strips on the slats can do their job.
