The only real difference between this and the boucle version is the fabric, which makes the fabric the whole decision. Chenille has a cut pile, so it sits smooth and sheds crumbs and pet hair when brushed. Boucle has loops that hold them and that catch on claws. The trade is that a cut pile crushes where it is leaned on and shows a shaded patch, most visibly on the headboard behind two sets of shoulders. One fabric marks, the other snags.

How it lives in the room

Chenille pile against boucle loops

Choose on the household rather than the photograph. Animals with claws and children with sticky hands suit a cut pile, which brushes clean in one direction. A room where the headboard takes two sets of shoulders every evening will show crushing on chenille sooner than a looped fabric would, and crushing is permanent in a way that a snag is not.

Low heat on the steamer, nothing more

A low-heat steamer passed over the fabric brings the pile back up and drops the fold lines left from compression. Low heat is the instruction and it is not caution for its own sake: the pile sits on a foam substrate here, and a hot iron face flattens the exact patch it was meant to lift. Keep the head moving and off the surface.

Four inches of foam on every rail

The headboard, both side rails and the footboard all carry 4 inches of high-resilience foam, so there is no hard edge anywhere on the base. Combined with the low profile, that is a bed a toddler can climb onto and fall against without consequence. It also means the footprint is wider than the mattress on all four sides.

Before you order

Low profile means the sleeping surface sits closer to the floor than a conventional frame. Easy for children and pets, harder for anyone who finds standing up from a low seat difficult. That is a question about the people in the room rather than about the base.
