The frame under this one is reinforced solid wood rather than steel, and the difference shows up as sound. A wood frame has no metal-on-metal joints to tick as a sleeper turns over, which is why the noise-free claim holds. The trade is that wood compresses slightly at every bolt face during the first weeks of use, so joints that were tight on assembly day are measurably looser by the second month. Go round every bolt once with the supplied key after four weeks and the bed stays silent for years.

How it lives in the room

Re-torque the bolts after four weeks

Keep the key in the drawer of the bed rather than the toolbox in the garage. One pass round the frame at the end of the first month catches the settling, and a second pass six months later is usually the last one the bed ever needs. Squeaks that start later almost always trace back to a bolt skipped here.

Light velvet and a sunny window

Beige nap hides crushing and shading better than any dark fabric, which is why it still looks new after a year of use. What it does not resist is sunlight. A headboard sitting in a south-facing strip of afternoon sun will lift a shade over two or three summers, and the part under the pillows will not.

The top platform is not a nightstand

The flat run along the top of the headboard holds a phone and a pair of glasses, but it sits at pillow height directly behind your head. Anything on it gets swept off when the bed is made. A shallow tray with a lip turns that ledge into usable surface for about the cost of nothing.

Before you order

Five charging points sit in the headboard, two of them AC outlets, so the bedside lamps can plug into the bed itself with one cord running to the wall. That cord still has to cross the floor from whichever socket you pick, so pick it before the bed goes back against the wall.
