Fourteen inches of extra oval

Tape 47 inches and 61 inches onto the floor before ordering. The small circle tells you whether the table works on a Tuesday; the oval tells you whether the dinner you are imagining is physically possible with three feet of chair clearance around it. Most rooms pass the first test easily and fail the second by about a foot.

Park the closed table under a window

A round 47-inch top looks deliberate centred under a pendant or set against a window, and looks like a table waiting to be opened when it floats in the middle of an open plan.
