Two tiers of open shelving and no doors anywhere is the decision that defines this console. Nothing can be hidden, and the LED lighting behind the back panel and under the glass shelves makes sure of it: whatever sits on those shelves is lit from behind every evening. That is excellent for three or four deliberate objects and merciless with a pile of controllers. Buy it if the room is kept tidy, and choose one of the cabinet models if it is not.

How it lives in the room

Open shelves put everything on show

With backlighting through the panel, the shelves behave like a display case rather than storage. Decide what belongs there before the unit is against the wall: a console, a speaker, two or three objects. Everything else needs a drawer somewhere else in the room, because there is nowhere on this cabinet for it to go.

Crystal stones read cooler than logs

The ember bed here is crystal rather than moulded logs, so light reflects off it instead of appearing to glow from inside. The effect is sharper and more modern, and it sits better with a white arched cabinet than a log bed would. It also looks less like a real fire, which is the honest trade.

Under fifty minutes, hardware included

This is the quickest build in the range because there are no doors to hang and no drawer runners to align. Clear instructions, all the fixings in the box, and glass shelves that drop in at the end. Leave the glass in its packaging until the carcass is standing and square, then fit it last.

Before you order

No load rating is given for the glass shelves. Treat them as display rather than structure: receivers, subwoofers and anything with a transformer in it belong on the base, where the integrated frame carries the weight.
