Guardrails are measured from the platform, not from the top of the mattress, and that is the detail which decides whether 16.5 inches is generous. Put a 10-inch mattress on the slats and only 6.5 inches of rail stands above the sleeping surface, roughly the height of a rolled duvet. How it lives in the room

Subtract the mattress from the rail

Before ordering a mattress, take 16.5 inches and remove the depth of the one you are considering. Whatever is left is the real height of the barrier beside a sleeping body. Anything under five inches of standing rail is a ledge. The thin mattresses sold for bunks exist for this reason and nothing else.

Shelves for what gets looked at

Three open shelves and three fabric drawers are not the same storage. The shelves are visible from the room, so they hold books, a speaker, the things worth seeing. The drawers swallow everything and show nothing. Mixing the two roles turns the shelves into a ledge of clutter within a month.

Anchor the tip kit into something solid

The anti-tip kit fixes the frame to the wall and it is the one part of the build that depends on your house rather than the instructions. A stud or masonry takes it. Hollow plasterboard needs a proper cavity anchor instead of the plug in the box. Find out which you have before the frame is standing.

Before you order
