Oak is the forgiving end of this range and the demanding one at the same time. A pale warm grain hides crumbs, dust and the ordinary grey marks of family use far better than the black version does, so day to day it asks for less. What it does show is contrast in the other direction: coffee, red wine and tea all leave dark rings on a light top that are obvious from across the room. The mechanism underneath is identical, silent rails and leaves stored beneath the tabletop.

How it lives in the room

Natural oak on the same rails

If you are choosing between this and the black, the decision is entirely cosmetic and entirely about light. Oak lifts a dim room and takes a dark floor well; black anchors a bright one. Nothing about the rails, the shelf width or the load rating differs, so judge it on the wall and floor you already have.

Keep the rails free of crumbs

Crumbs work down into the extension rails every time the table is wiped towards the seam, and a rail with grit in it turns a silent extension into a sticky one within a year. A pass with a vacuum nozzle along the groove each time you close the table takes about ten seconds and prevents the problem entirely.

Oak shows the water ring

Light finishes make a dried water mark high-contrast where a dark top would absorb it. Coasters matter more on this colour than on any other in the range, and the place to watch is the extension seam, which sits slightly below the surrounding surface and holds liquid long enough to leave a line.

Before you order

Pale wood-tone laminates change colour in sunlight, usually unevenly, because the part under a fruit bowl stays as it was. If the table sits near a window, turn it a quarter turn once a year so the whole top ages at the same rate.
