Five seats at 330 lb each is where the 1,650 lb headline comes from, and it reads better in reverse: a per-seat rating multiplied out, not a figure the sofa was tested to as one bench. Seated normally, nobody is anywhere near it. Put two people on the middle cushion of the three-seater to make six and the load gathers on one section of frame instead of spreading across five. The ottoman is the honest sixth seat, and it is also the footrest, which is the compromise in a set this size.

How it lives in the room

Count the ottoman as the sixth seat

An ottoman doing duty as a seat is not holding anyone feet up, so decide which job it has for the evening before guests arrive. On a crowded night it belongs at the open side of the fire table where it is reachable; on a quiet one it sits in front of the three-seater. It is also the only piece in the set light enough to move with a drink in hand.

Find the tank face during assembly

The 20 lb tank stands inside the base of the fire pit table and comes out through one face of it. Work out which face that is while building the table, not on a cold evening with a spent tank, and keep that side clear of the coffee table. Check the hose is not pinned between tank and frame, and that the tank sits upright and square, before the tabletop goes back down.

Olefin rope collects grit, not sun

Olefin rope over TPU-coated fabric is built for weather, and what finishes a rope weave early is abrasion rather than daylight. Blown sand and grit lodge between the cords, then grind every time someone shifts their weight. A rinse with a hose and a soft brush twice a season clears it out. Pay attention to the arm tops and the front edge of the seat, which take the most movement.

Before you order

The burner is described as running on propane or natural gas, which is not the same as arriving ready for both. A natural gas setup needs the correct orifice and a plumbed line; out of the carton this is a 20 lb propane tank living in the table base.
