Colored light behaves differently on a white cabinet than on a dark one. White panels are reflective, so a strip under a pale carcass does not only wash the floor: it bounces back up into the body and tints the furniture, which is why a saturated blue setting turns a white dresser blue. That is either the effect wanted or an unwelcome surprise, and it is worth testing before the drawers are loaded. Warm amber at low output keeps the piece reading as white at night. The full-saturation presets are for a room meant to look lit.

How it lives in the room

Test the colors on white first

Run through the presets with the drawers still empty and the room dark. A white carcass takes on whatever is pointed at it, so a setting that looks right in a photograph can tint the entire piece. Pick two presets, save them, and leave the cycling modes alone unless the room is hosting something.

Use the button, not the phone

App control is useful for setup and a nuisance at bedtime, when it means unlocking a phone to turn a light off. The button on the cabinet is the one that gets used daily. Check which side it falls on, and whether that side is reachable from the bed or the door, before choosing the wall.

Wire it before the drawers go in

The strips and their connections sit in and behind the base, reachable while the carcass is still open and awkward once six loaded drawers are in the way. Connect everything, power it up and confirm both layers light during the build, before the final panel closes the base off.

Before you order

Lighting is a component with a shorter working life than the cabinet around it. If a strip or its controller fails, the dresser carries on being a dresser, which is the right way to weigh it up: six drawers first, the glow second.
