The floating effect is an optical trick and it depends entirely on the floor. Over a dark floor the shadow line under the frame reads as depth and the illusion is strong even with the lights off. Over pale carpet the underside is lit by bounced daylight and the bed simply looks like a bed on short legs until the strips come on. If your floor is light, budget for the LED to be on whenever you want the effect, and place the bed where daylight does not rake under it.

How it lives in the room

Judge the floor first

Dark wood and dark carpet sell the illusion. Pale tile does not. If your floor is light, consider a dark rug that sits entirely under the frame — it restores the shadow the trick needs.

Pull it away from the wall

Three sides are lit; the fourth is the headboard. Push the frame flat to the wall and you lose nothing, but leave two or three inches and the headboard glow washes the wall behind, which is where most of the drama comes from.

Low light, warm colour

A floating bed lit in cold white looks like a display. The same bed at ten percent brightness in a warm amber reads as architecture. The remote remembers the setting; find it once.

Before you order

Recommended mattress is 8 to 10 inches, ceiling 12. On a bed whose whole design is about looking low and light, a thick mattress is self-defeating — it raises the visual mass above the glow line and the frame stops floating.
