Fifteen feet of length is the number that decides whether a simulator bay works. A hitting net eats the first two or three feet, the stance and ball position take another four or five, and whatever is left is the run-up and the walk-around behind the hitter. Seven feet of width covers a right-handed and a left-handed stance from the same mat. At 105 square feet this is a floor covering rather than a hitting pad, and it is meant to live under the shell.

How it lives in the room

Fifteen feet is the ball corridor

Lay the long axis along the line of flight, not across it. The ball travels down the length of the mat into the net, and a sheet laid sideways leaves the first bounce landing on bare floor, which is exactly the hard-surface kickback the turf is there to absorb. Mark the hitting position before anything is fixed down, then check that the net sits fully on turf.

Cushioning is for the room, not the swing

The turf softens a ball that has already left the club, which protects walls, skirting and shins. It does not change what the club does at impact: this is a surround, and a dedicated hitting strip still belongs under the ball if a driver is involved. Treating the whole sheet as a hitting surface wears a bald patch into it within a season.

Hose it where the water can go

Drainage holes are the reason this washes down rather than being wiped, and they are also the reason an indoor installation needs thinking about. On a garage slab with a drain, soap and a hose is the whole routine. On a finished floor inside the house, the water has nowhere to arrive, so cleaning becomes a damp cloth and a stiff brush instead.

Before you order

Fire-resistant is a material property, not permission to put a heater or a projector lamp against it. Keep heat sources off the surface, and remember a 105 square foot roll is heavy and awkward enough to want a second pair of hands.
