Two tables instead of one enormous one is the useful decision here. Pushed end to end they make a single run long enough for ten, which is what you want at a birthday or a holiday meal; separated they become a dining table and a serving table, or two four-tops on opposite ends of a terrace. All ten chairs have arms, which is a deliberate choice for a set this size — at ten people the seating is the event, and nobody is trying to tuck chairs away to walk past.

How it lives in the room

Try both layouts

Set them joined for one meal and split for the next before you decide which is the default. A long single run is dramatic and hard to talk across; two tables of five are far more sociable and take an oddly shaped terrace better.

Line up the joint

When the tables are pushed together, level both with the same reference point — a slight step at the join shows on every tablecloth and every glass set down across it.

Two umbrellas, or none

Each table has its own hole, which means shading a joined run needs two poles standing in the middle of the seating. Often the better answer is a single cantilever off to one side and both holes plugged.

Before you order

Ten armchairs is roughly 27 inches of table edge each. Joined end to end the two tables comfortably take five a side — pushing for six a side is where elbows start meeting.
