The roof is the reason this is cedar and not aluminium. A dual-layer galvanized deck rated for 165 lb per sq ft of snow is heavy before a single flake lands, and the frame under it has to be timber of some substance to carry that dead weight across a 16 foot span. The practical consequence is in the handling: roof sections and cedar beams are two-person lifts, and the build wants a still day, a pair of stepladders and somewhere flat to lay parts out.

How it lives in the room

Drain the four corner columns

The sloped, textured roof funnels rain and snowmelt to the corners, so each column foot becomes a downpipe outlet. Gravel, a channel or a pipe to a border at all four, otherwise the first heavy storm puts four wet patches at exactly the points carrying the structure.

Lay the cedar out by number

Sort every beam and bracket into labelled piles around the footprint before the first fixing. On a pavilion this size the parts look similar and the sequence matters, and a beam fitted in the wrong bay is discovered three steps later when the roof will not sit.

Oil the cedar in year one

Galvanized hardware looks after itself; the timber does not. A coat of exterior oil before the first winter slows the weathering and keeps the joints from opening, and doing it while the frame is new and clean is far easier than stripping grey fibres off it later.

Before you order

Zip curtains and netting run on the dual track and can be adjusted independently, but neither is structural. The snow and wind figures apply to the assembled pavilion with its posts properly anchored, so the anchoring is not the part to improvise.
