Two hundred square feet of covered ground is about the size of a single garage, and this version earns its keep as a store rather than as a parking space. Firewood, a ride-on mower, bagged compost, garden machinery and the things that have no business in a house all fit under it with a walkway down one side, and none of them mind that the walls are fabric. Used that way the shelter also stays up year-round instead of being rigged each spring.

How it lives in the room

Stack along one wall only

Keep the load down one side and the aisle on the other. Stacking against both walls puts weight against the fabric on each side and leaves nowhere to stand, and anything leaning on a tarp wears a hole in it within a season from the movement alone.

Lift firewood off the ground

A tarp roof keeps rain off but the floor is whatever was there before. Pallets or bearers under firewood and bagged goods let air move underneath, which is the difference between dry storage and a shelter full of mould by February. Two spare pallets cost nothing and save a winter of firewood.

Tie the ropes outside the footprint

Stakes driven close to the legs pull sideways and lift out. Run the wind ropes out at an angle so the pull is downwards into the ground, and check them after the first storm: new stakes always settle, and a slack rope does nothing at all.

Before you order

Not recommended for snowy conditions. A tarp canopy used for storage is also a dark, still space, so keep fuel and chemicals in sealed containers and do not treat it as a workshop with the sides closed.
