The name promises a mattress, and that is true of one of the two sleeping surfaces. The 4-inch high-resilience foam mattress belongs to the rolling lower bed. The upper platform still needs a mattress bought separately, and it has to be 4 to 6 inches thick, because the guardrail stands 12.5 inches above the deck and every inch of mattress is an inch of rail taken away. Order the top mattress at the same time or the loft arrives half usable.

How it lives in the room

The included mattress is for the lower bed

Two sleeping surfaces, one mattress in the carton. Buy the upper one to the stated 4 to 6 inches and buy it firm, because a thin foam mattress that is also soft bottoms out against the deck. Six inches is the ceiling, not a target to beat, and the rail geometry is the reason rather than any comfort preference.

Forty inches of desk eats the walkway

The L-shaped desk measures 40 inches deep by 34 inches wide, and depth is the number that bites. Forty inches under the platform plus a chair pulled out is close to six FT of committed floor on that side. Chalk the outline including the chair position before the loft goes into a corner, because the desk only fits one way round.

280 pounds is a growing-child rating

The frame is reinforced to support over 280 lb. That covers a child or a teenager and a parent perched on the edge for a story. It does not cover two adults on the upper deck, and it is the figure to quote when the bed gets borrowed as a guest arrangement for someone heavier than the person it was bought for.

Before you order

The lower bed rolls on casters and folds, which means it needs its own clear floor to come out into. In a room where the loft sits against the only free wall, measure the full extended position as well as the folded one before the frame is assembled.
