Textilene under the cushions is a mesh, and that changes what happens after a storm. Rain working past the cushion cover drains through the seat deck and keeps going, so the set is dry a few hours after the weather clears instead of holding water in a solid pan for a day. How it lives in the room

Lift a cushion after the rain

The mesh deck only drains if the water can get off it, so tip the cushions on edge once the rain stops and the whole seat dries in an afternoon. Left flat, the cushion traps a damp layer against the mesh, and that is where the smell starts. It is a two-minute habit, and it is most of the difference between cushions that last and cushions that get replaced.

A two-seater beats a three here

Splitting four seats into a two-seater and two separate chairs is more useful than one three-seat sofa with a single chair. The chairs turn: toward the house for conversation, toward the yard for an afternoon in the sun, pulled in close when the evening cools. A two-seater is also short enough to carry through a standard doorway without taking the back off it.

Rope wears at the arm top

Olefin rope is the structural weave across the arms and backs, and it wears where it gets touched rather than where the sun falls. Forearms on the arm top, and the corner where a cushion rubs, are the two places to look at the end of each season. Rinse grit out of the cords before it grinds, and a loose cord re-tensioned early stays a five-minute job.
