A king base is 76 inches across, so the center of the storage is a 38-inch reach from either side. Nobody reaches 38 inches into a bed cavity while holding a duvet. In practice a king lift base is two stores with a dead zone between them, which is fine if you load it that way: the things each person wants near their own side, nothing in the middle. Treat it as one large box and the middle third becomes archaeology.

How it lives in the room

Load the king base in two halves

Put each person's own seasonal bags, cases and spare bedding on their own side and leave the middle empty on purpose. An empty strip down the center also gives the struts somewhere to work without anything fouling them, and it means the lid can come down without someone first checking what has shifted during the week.

Two AC outlets replace the power strip

The headboard carries two mains outlets alongside a USB and a Type-C port, so both bedside lamps and a phone can run from the bed with one cord to the wall. On a king that is the difference between two extension cords and none. Decide which wall the single cord runs to before the frame is built, because reversing it means unplugging the lot.

Wall clearance for a king lid

A lifting base swings the mattress upward through its own length, and on a king there is a lot of mattress. Leave the headboard a couple of inches off the wall and check nothing is hanging above the bed in the arc: a picture frame, a shelf, a ceiling light on a short drop. Find that out empty rather than loaded.

Before you order

Heavy metal frame, solid wood slats, no box spring. Skipping the box spring is not optional here, it is structural: the lift mechanism is built to carry a mattress alone, and adding a sprung base on top changes both the weight and the height of the lid.
