Here is the rule nobody tells you about drawer placement: do not point them at the door. A drawer that opens toward the bedroom doorway is a drawer that has to be closed before anyone can walk in, and one that will eventually be walked into in the dark. How it lives in the room

Never toward the door

Stand in the doorway and look at the bed. Whichever side faces you is the side that gets no drawer. Everything else follows from that.

Give each drawer its clearance

A drawer needs floor in front of it equal to its own depth plus room to kneel. Two drawers on the same side need that space shared, which is why splitting them is often better in a narrow room.

Set the light low and warm

Sixteen million colours is a demonstration feature. The setting you will keep is a dim warm one used as a night light, and it is worth finding it on the first evening rather than the tenth.
