The three-tier pull-out cart is the part of this cabinet that changes a kitchen. Anything stored on a fixed shelf behind a door at knee height gets forgotten; the same items on a cart that rolls out are visible from above, which is why produce, snacks and bottles belong there rather than in the enclosed compartments. Seven zones sounds like marketing until it is loaded, at which point the split between cart, drawers, door shelves and upper shelving is what stops it becoming one deep cupboard.

How it lives in the room

Load the cart with what spoils

Fruit, vegetables, bread and open packets go on the rolling tiers because you see them every time it comes out. Tins and jars can live in the dark behind a door without anyone losing track of them. Getting that split right on day one is most of the value of a seven-zone cabinet.

Set the upper shelves to the boxes

Adjustable shelving is only adjusted once in practice. Stand your tallest cereal box and your tallest bottle on the floor, measure both, and set the heights to those two numbers before loading. A shelf half an inch too low is the one that stays empty for years.

Hang stems, not mugs

Six glass hooks under the shelf are sized for wine and stemware, which hang by the foot and stay put. Mugs on the same hooks swing, knock each other and chip at the rim, so keep those in a drawer and let the hooks do the job they were cut for.

Before you order

The appliance station is open, so steam from a kettle or a coffee machine rises straight into the shelf above it. Pull the machine forward to the counter edge when it runs, or that underside is the first part of the cabinet to mark.
