That bay is 41 inches wide for a fridge that is usually 19 or 20, and the extra width is the point: a compressor needs air at the sides and the back or it runs constantly and heats the cabinet. Measure the fridge with its door open as well, because a right-hinged door inside a recess will foul the cabinet upright if it swings the wrong way. Height is 36.6 inches, which clears most under-counter models comfortably.

How it lives in the room

Check which way the fridge opens

A mini fridge inside a bay is only convenient if the door clears the frame. Most small units are reversible with two screws and a plug kit; do that before the fridge is slid in and loaded, not after you have discovered the handle is against the wall side.

Appliances on the counter, not the shelf

The open counter is the one surface here rated for a microwave or a coffee maker. Keep the three shelves above for cups, jars and bottles, and site the machine so the steam from a kettle or an espresso wand vents forwards instead of straight up into the shelf underside.

Three outlets decide the layout

Coffee maker, grinder and a phone on the USB ports is the realistic load. Work out which appliance lives at which end before the first use, because moving a full machine later means unplugging it from inside a cabinet with a jug of water balanced on top.

Before you order

The mini fridge is not included, and nothing in this cabinet is ventilated for one, so leave the recess open at the back rather than packing boxes in behind. A black finish in a kitchen shows fingerprints around the fridge bay first.
