The conversion into two separate beds is the quiet argument for every bunk, and on a full-over-full it needs checking against the room. Two full beds want 54 inches of mattress each plus a wall to stand the head against, which is around nine FT of wall between them. Plenty of rooms that take a full-over-full bunk cannot take two full beds. If the long-term plan is the split, find the two walls before the bunk is bought rather than in five years.

How it lives in the room

Two full beds need nine FT of wall

Measure it now, with a tape, along the walls that are actually free of doors, radiators and closets. A bunk that cannot be split stays a bunk, and a full-over-full that nobody can split becomes a large object in a teenager's room. Knowing the answer today changes nothing about the purchase except what you expect from it later.

White tube reports every scuff

Pale powder coat shows the mark of a shoe, a bike pedal or a marker pen. None of it is damage and all of it is visible from the door. A damp cloth along the rails when the bedding changes keeps it looking new; leaving it a year sets the grey into the texture of the coating itself.

Load the pocket, not the guardrail

The bedside pocket and the four hooks exist so that nothing balances on the rail. A phone left on a guardrail at upper-deck height finds a hard floor roughly once a week. Put the pocket where a hand reaches from the pillow and the hooks at the far end, out of the climbing route.

Before you order

The frame carries 330 lb on the upper deck and 440 lb on the lower, the same figures as the twin version despite the wider decks. On a full-size deck that rating is shared by whoever is sitting on it, which on a double-width bed is more often two people than one.
