The extra foot comes with the same four main branches, which is the thing to think about. Spread over seven feet instead of six, those four have more trunk to cover, so the gaps between them are wider and the shaping matters more. The compensation is that this is the size that works outdoors, on a porch or either side of a front door, where a tree is seen from the street and from twenty feet away rather than from the sofa.

How it lives in the room

A porch maple meets real wind

Cement in the pot handles a knock indoors; a gust across an open porch is a different load on seven feet of lever. Set it against a wall or in a recess rather than free-standing at the top of steps, and if the spot is genuinely exposed, drop the woven pot into a heavier outer container with stone around it.

Fill the gaps at seven feet

With four branches over an extra foot of trunk, bare stretches show. Bend the lowest branch downward and outward to cover the gap above the pot, then rotate the trunk so whatever bare side remains faces the wall. Standing back to the doorway between adjustments is the only reliable way to see which side that is.

Hang the decorations on the trunk

The branches are wired and will hold an added weight, but the leaves are attached foliage rather than structure, so lights and ornaments belong on the branch itself, close in to the trunk where the wire is thickest. Hooked over leaf stems they drag the foliage down and bend it out of shape permanently.

Before you order

Seven feet indoors wants a nine-foot ceiling or the canopy presses into the plaster. Outdoors the moss top dressing is the weak point: it holds water and goes dark, so a covered position is better than an open one.
