Seven feet outdoors is a different proposition from seven feet indoors. There is no ceiling to worry about, so the only limit is what the space can visually carry — and a palm at this height beside a pool, at the corner of a deck or either side of a doorway does exactly what a real one would do without the irrigation. Eighteen PE fronds at 37 by 13 inches each, a thick bark-textured trunk with wire and metal supports inside, waterproof and UV-resistant throughout.

How it lives in the room

Anchor it properly

At seven feet, wind loading is the whole engineering problem. Either plant it in the ground, or use a planter heavy enough that you struggle to slide it — concrete, stone, or a plastic pot filled with sand rather than compost.

Angle the fronds down and out

The frond wires let you set a natural droop. A palm with fronds pointing upward looks like a decoration; the same palm with the outer fronds arched down looks like a tree.

Winter thinking

PE handles cold fine. What it does not handle is being buried under wet snow with the fronds loaded — in snow country, either bring it in or shake it out after a heavy fall.

Two people to place it. Seven feet of palm is light for its size, which sounds convenient until you are carrying it past a car in a breeze.
