Forty-seven inches is the round table sweet spot for a normal kitchen. It is large enough that four people are not touching and six can be seated at a push, and small enough that it leaves the walking space a kitchen needs. The top is MDF in a grey wood grain, heat-, scratch- and water-resistant; the base is a reinforced carbon-steel cross pedestal with 26 mm legs, which is heavier gauge than most tables in this bracket and is what keeps a single-column table from feeling springy.

How it lives in the room

Sit six only when you need to

The published figure is generous. Four is the everyday number at 47 inches and six is the holiday number — planning around four and squeezing to six is a much better experience than the reverse.

Put it under a light

Round tables want a single pendant centred over the middle. Anything off-centre on a circle is immediately obvious in a way it never is over a rectangle.

Level and forget

Cross bases have four contact points and floors rarely do. Check for rock on day one, shim once, and the table will not need attention again.

Before you order

A cross base spreads wider at the floor than a column pedestal. Measure the base footprint, not just the top, if the table sits in a tight corner or beside a radiator.
