Grey is the harder-working of the two finishes on a craft table, and not for the reason people assume. Pencil graphite and pale crayon vanish on natural wood and show clearly on grey, which means marks get wiped the same day instead of accumulating into a patina. The MDF surface is specified as heat resistant and easy to clean, so a cleaner takes off juice and glue. Rounded corners on every edge are the other half of the argument at toddler head height.

How it lives in the room

Grey shows the marks sooner

A finish that hides mess is a finish that accumulates it. Light pencil, pale chalk and dried glue all read against grey, so the table gets cleaned while the mess is still a wipe rather than a scrape. Keep a damp cloth in one of the removable drawers and the habit sticks without anybody having to enforce it.

Use the seat baskets as the reset

Each chair carries a removable fabric basket underneath, and two baskets hold roughly one session of toys and books. Tipping them out at the start and refilling them at the end gives a child a tidy-up with a visible finish line, which works far better than asking for a clear table.

Set the backrest to a real chair height

The chairs are shaped to put a child upright with legs under the top rather than tucked beneath them. Sit the child down before the first craft session and check the elbows land near table height. If they are reaching up, the table is being used too early and the easel mode is the better starting point.

Before you order

Numbered parts and illustrated steps put the build at around forty-five minutes, but that assumes the lift bar and hinge go on in the stated order. Fitting the top before the bar means taking the top back off, which is where the time goes.
