A fire table changes what a patio is for after nine in the evening, and buying the seating with it means the proportions are already right — a 42-inch table wants seating pulled up to it, not a full-size dining set orbiting it. The burner runs at 50,000 BTU on propane, the tank lives in the table base, and the seating is the UV-resistant rope-and-cushion construction with a waterproof cover included for the fire table itself. What arrives is one arrangement rather than two purchases that nearly match.

How it lives in the room

Do the fuel arithmetic

A full 20-pound propane tank holds roughly 430,000 BTU. At the full 50,000 BTU setting that is about eight and a half hours of burn — four or five evenings if you run it high, considerably more at a low flame. Keep a second tank if you entertain.

Set the clearances

Nothing combustible overhead, and seats far enough back that the radiant heat is pleasant rather than sharp — for a 50,000 BTU burner that is usually two to three feet of open air between the table edge and the front of the cushions.

Cover the burner, not the cushions

The included cover is for the fire table; it keeps water out of the burner tray and lava rock, which is what actually causes ignition trouble. The seat cushions have their own weather routine — stand them on edge or bring them in.

Before you order

Gas fire tables belong outdoors and in the open. Never run one under a covered porch roof, in a screened enclosure or in a garage, however tempting it looks in the rain.
