Corduroy behaves differently from velvet, and it is the reason to choose this frame over its siblings. Velvet has a random nap that shows every hand mark as a lighter patch. Corduroy has ribs running one direction, so the pile is disciplined — marks brush out along the wale and the surface reads as texture rather than as shading. It also hides dust better between the cords than a flat pile does on top of it. The trade is that vacuuming must follow the ribs, never across them.

How it lives in the room

Brush along the wale

A soft brush drawn in the direction of the ribs lifts dust out of the channels. Across them it pushes dust in and flattens the cord. Once a month is enough on a headboard.

Use the clips

The drawers fasten to the frame with screw clips. On hardwood or tile that fastening is what stops them sliding out from under the bed every time someone sits down heavily. Skipping it is the most common installation shortcut and the most common complaint.

Curved back, straight pillows

The ergonomic curve supports the lower back when sitting up. It also means a flat pillow propped against it slides sideways. A firm rectangular cushion sits in the curve; a soft one does not.
