Wingback sides change the footprint of a bed in a way the mattress size does not tell you. The panels stand proud of the headboard on both sides, so the overall width at the head of the bed is greater than the width at the foot. In a twin going into an alcove or between a wall and a wardrobe, that is the measurement that decides whether it fits. Measure the widest point of the frame, not the mattress it takes, and measure it at headboard height rather than at floor level.

How it lives in the room

Measure at headboard height

An alcove is rarely square. Take the width at the floor and again at three feet, because old plaster narrows as it rises and the wings sit high.

Beige needs a rule about shoes

A light velvet at the head of a twin bed sits exactly where a child kneels. A no-shoes-on-the-bed rule is easier to enforce than a cleaning routine.

Drawers on the free side

Both drawers mount left or right. In a twin against a wall, that is not a choice — put them both on the open side and the bed can sit flush.

Before you order

Box spring is optional here rather than unnecessary, which is unusual in the range. Adding one raises the sleeping surface by seven or eight inches and puts a twin mattress above the wingback line. It will look wrong. The frame is designed to be used without.
