A full mattress overhead means 54 inches of solid ceiling above the desk, fifteen inches more than the twin version of this frame. That is good for the desk, which gains genuine depth to work in, and bad for light, because the platform now blocks the room fixture across a much larger area. It is also appreciably more mass held up in the air, which is where the anti-tip kit stops being a precaution and becomes part of the structure. Fix it into a stud or masonry, not into hollow board with a plastic plug.

How it lives in the room

Light a 54-inch shadow

The platform above the desk is wide enough to kill the ceiling light over the entire working area. One clamp lamp is not enough at this width. An LED bar fixed to the underside of the platform, or two clamp lamps at the ends of the L, is the honest answer, and both need a socket planned before the bed goes into a corner.

Build a full loft with two people

The side rails on a full are long enough that holding one in place while starting a bolt is a two-person job. Leave every screw loose until the last hole lines up, because steel tubing needs a little play to come together. Tightening early means forcing a bolt into a hole that has moved.

Decide which wall takes the long leg

An L-shaped desk has a long side and a short side, so the loft only fits one way round in any given corner. Work out which wall carries the long run before assembly. Reversing it later means dismantling the frame, not sliding the desk round.

Before you order

The fabric drawers and the hanging bedside bag are soft storage: they carry weight but hold no shape. Folded clothes stay tidy in them. A box of toy bricks or a stack of books turns one into a sagging bag that stops being opened.
