How it lives in the room

Check the sofa gap

Sixteen to eighteen inches between the sofa edge and the table is comfortable. Add the fact that the top travels forwards as it rises — leave a couple of inches more than you think.

Load the compartment first

The hidden bay is deep. Fill it while the table is empty on top, because lifting a loaded surface is what tests the struts unnecessarily.
