The sensor is the feature that decides where this cabinet goes. Lights that come on when a person is two or three meters away and switch off a minute after they leave make sense in a hallway or at the end of a room that people walk through; in a bedroom, the same sensor turns the cabinet into something that lights up every time anyone crosses the floor at night. There is a switch on the right-hand control panel, and knowing that in advance is worth more than the sixteen million colours.

How it lives in the room

Decide the sensor is on or off

Walk the route people take through the room and ask whether you want light each time. For a display at a doorway the answer is yes; for a cabinet facing a sofa where a film is playing, no. The panel switch settles it, and the cabinet behaves completely differently depending on which way it is set.

Push the glass, never pull it

Handle-free doors open on a magnetic latch when pressed, which keeps the front clean and means there is nothing to grab. Teach everyone in the house that before the shelves are loaded: a tempered glass door being tugged at the edge is the one way this front gets damaged.

Set the top shelf for the tall figure

The upper shelf is removable, so the top compartment can be a double-height bay for one large piece. Work out which item needs that before loading, because moving a shelf later means clearing four tiers of collectibles onto a table in the right order, then putting them back exactly as they were.

Before you order

Two people and about forty minutes, and the glass panels are the part to unpack last. The fenced top is for display rather than storage, and a cabinet 68.3 inches tall on a 15.7-inch base needs fixing to the wall in any house with children.
