The feature worth attention on this pack is the one that sounds like filler: shock absorption. Polyvinyl chloride with a textured face over a concrete slab takes the edge off standing all day, which is why these turn up in gyms and workshops more often than on patios. Twelve tiles is about twelve square feet, enough for a squat platform, the floor in front of a bench, or the landing inside a garage side door. Grey hides dust in a way that black does not.

How it lives in the room

Stand on it for an hour

Cushioning is a claim that only means something after sixty minutes on your feet. Lay the twelve tiles where the standing actually happens, at the bench or the sink or the squat rack, and work a normal session on them before deciding whether to cover more floor. Knees and lower back report back clearly, and the answer is different over a concrete slab than over an existing wood floor.

Mop it, do not pressure wash

These clean with a damp mop or a cloth, and that is the intended routine for an indoor floor. A pressure washer forces water and grit between the tiles and under the pegs, where it then sits. For a garage the sensible compromise is to unclip the field twice a year, rinse the tiles outside, sweep the slab and clip them back down.

Then watch the grey show grease

Grey hides dust and shows oil. In a gym or a playroom that never matters; under a car it does, and the dark patch where the sump drips becomes permanent well before the tile wears out. Either keep a tray under the engine or accept that the tiles at the front of the bay are a consumable to be rotated to the back.

Before you order

No peg height is stated for this pack, so it should not be assumed to interlock with the other 11.8-inch tiles sold alongside it. Hold a tile against an existing one before ordering an extension for a floor that is already down.
