Six hundred and sixty pounds is the frame rating, and it is the number that decides how many children can use this at once rather than how heavy one of them can be. Seven stations spread across a single A-frame built from 2-inch powder-coated steel tube means swings, trapeze, ladder, net, hoop and goals are all in use simultaneously, which is the point for ages three to twelve. The injection-molded bases take ground anchors instead of concrete, so the whole structure can be moved.

How it lives in the room

Set the spiral anchors in damp ground

The injection-molded bases anchor with a spiral stake and no concrete, which is the selling point and also the weak link. Spirals bite in soil with some moisture and spin loose in dry sand or in thin topsoil over hardpan. Water the four footprints the day before, drive the spirals fully home, then walk back around them after the first week of hard use.

Decide who gets the basketball hoop

Seven stations on one frame means the swings, the hoop and the goals share a single footprint, and the collisions happen between activities rather than on any one of them. Put the goal end facing open lawn and the hoop on the side away from the swing arc. Children sort out turns on the swings by themselves; a ball crossing the path of a swing in motion is the thing adults have to design out.

Then check the silicone screw covers

The soft covers over the bolt ends and the thermoplastic coating on the chains are what stop a metal frame from taking skin off. Both are consumables. Covers work loose and get pulled off, coating splits where the chain bends over the hanger, and neither failure is obvious from a deck chair. A look at every bolt end and both chain tops at the start of each season is the whole maintenance job.

Before you order

The 660 lb rating covers the whole frame, not a single swing seat. An adult testing a swing built for a child concentrates that load in one hanger, which is how A-frame sets of this class end up with a bent top tube.
