Three output steps matter more than the headline 18,000 BTU, because a radiant heater at full gas in a 450 sq ft space overshoots within twenty minutes and then has nowhere to go but off. Six thousand is the setting that holds a garage or a covered patio steady. The cylinder sits inside the cabinet rather than beside it, which is why the thing rolls on five casters with brakes on two, and why the rated area assumes a space with air moving through it.

How it lives in the room

Set the brakes on two casters

Five casters make a loaded cabinet heater easy to reposition and easy to nudge. Only two of them lock, so the heater has to be parked with the braked pair taking the direction anything is likely to push from: a doorway, a walkway, a dog. The tip-over switch will cut the gas if it goes over, but a shut-down with people around a live flame is not the outcome to design for.

Respect the low-oxygen sensor

Unvented propane consumes the air in the room it is heating, and the low oxygen cut-off is the sensor that decides when that has gone too far. Treat a shut-down as information rather than a nuisance. A window or a door cracked two inches in a sealed garage is the difference between a heater that runs all evening and one that keeps stopping, and the sensor is not something to work around.

Then notice the missing fan noise

Under 30 decibels is the figure that separates this from a forced-air propane heater, and it is audible as an absence: no blower, no cycling roar, just a radiant panel. In a workshop it means a radio still works. It also means the heat travels by line of sight instead of being blown around, so the cabinet has to face the people rather than the ceiling.

Before you order

A 20 lb cylinder is not included and doubles as the heater's own ballast. Running it with a near-empty tank makes the whole cabinet lighter and easier to tip, which is the point at which the tip-over switch stops being a formality.
