How it lives in the room

Decide the room first

Dining sideboard, living-room TV console or entryway cabinet — walnut suits all three, but the loading is different. A console wants cable access at the back; a sideboard does not.

Cut a cable notch if it holds the TV

There is no factory cutout. A 40 mm hole saw through the back panel of one compartment, done before the cabinet is against the wall, is a five-minute job.

Then leave the top alone

Long, low and dark carries one lamp and one object well and five objects badly. Restraint on a walnut top is what makes the fluting visible.

Dark finishes show dust in raking light. If this stands under a window, expect to wipe it more often than you would the oak — that is the finish, not the build.
