Thirty-five inches is an unusual amount of table to gain from stored leaves. Closed at 43.3 inches this is an honest four-seater for a small kitchen; open at 78.7 inches it is a long oval seating three along each side plus the ends. That is not two extra place settings, it is a change of category, and it is the reason to pick this over a table that adds twelve inches. The round pedestal carries both, with a double-layer shelf built into the fluted base.

How it lives in the room

Thirty-five inches from stored leaves

Tape both footprints on the floor. The 43.3-inch circle decides whether the table works daily; the 78.7-inch oval plus three feet of chair clearance at every point decides whether the gathering you are picturing happens. Rooms that pass the first test comfortably fail the second by two or three feet more often than not.

Solve the eight-chair problem early

Going from four seats to eight means four more chairs that have to live somewhere for the fifty weeks they are not needed. Folding chairs in a cupboard, or two borrowed from a desk and a bedroom, is the usual answer, but the question needs an answer before the table arrives rather than on the day.

Clamp the full oval before loading

The extension uses secure clamps to lock the halves together, and a leaf that is seated but not clamped feels solid until somebody leans on it. Lock everything fully, then put the first plate down. Practise the sequence once on the day it arrives, not with eight people standing around holding drinks.

Before you order

Fluted surfaces collect dust in every groove and a flat cloth only touches the ridges. A brush attachment or a dry paintbrush along the channels twice a year is the whole job, and skipping it is how a walnut base turns grey at the base.
