Nine drawer fronts on one cabinet is a large area of finish, and on a wood tone that is the thing to look at when it arrives. A printed grain runs in a repeating pattern, so across a face this size the same knot or streak can appear two or three times, and adjacent fronts rarely continue each other the way sawn timber would. None of that affects how the chest works. It does mean the piece is read as nine panels rather than one object, which is why the finish, not the drawer count, decides whether it suits the room.

How it lives in the room

Look at nine fronts in daylight

Unpack the drawer fronts and lay them out before any of them is fitted. If a streak in the pattern repeats across two panels, put those two at opposite ends of the cabinet rather than side by side. It takes a minute during the build and it is the only chance to choose the arrangement.

Line the bottom three drawers

The lowest drawers on a nine-drawer cabinet sit close to the floor, which is where dust and, in an older house, damp live. A paper or fabric liner in the bottom row keeps folded clothes off the base panel and is easier to replace than the panel. It also makes those drawers usable as a seasonal store.

Nine drawers and no published dimensions is an awkward combination for planning, since nothing states how tall each drawer is inside. Work out where bulky bedding will live independently of this chest, and measure the drawers once it is built.
